In May of 1999, a group of 11 people assembled for the purpose of forming a support organization to the Grape Creek Independent School District. The GCEF is a nonprofit 501©3 organization registered with the IRS, this enables the foundation to acquire grants and donations to enhance the educational opportunities for all students in the Grape Creek ISD school community.
Since then, the Education Foundation has developed an identity within the community with it’s GED Aid Program, Student Scholarship Program, Teacher “Just Imagine” Grants, Special Grant Requests for Principals Projects, Grant Requests for Special Projects, purchasing school supplies for the elementary school campus to give to needy children and our biggest fundraiser of the year was the annual Bluegrass “JamFest” held every October.
The GCEF has also sponsored community events like a Gardening Symposium, College Nights where high school students could meet with different college representatives, Health Fairs and our community’s biggest event, the Butterfield Overland Mail 150th Anniversary Historical Marker placed by the high school and the Butterfield Celebration Community Event held 2008-2010.
